Mahogany bowl

This bowl is a real statement piece with a 12-inch diameter. It is perfect for a hallway for putting keys or loose change in or for keeping nuts in on the coffee table.
 
Mahogany is such a beautiful wood with grain that shimmers in the light. It also has many mechanical properties that are highly desirable such as its rot resistance. Unfortunately, because it is such an amazing wood it is now very rare in the wild in South America and there have rightly been restrictions put in place on exports and imports of various types of mahogany. The tree this was from was cut down a very long time ago and I got the wood from a retired woodturner. This wood would have been burned but luckily it found its way to me and I get the joy of using it.
 
Like all of my bowls, this one is food-safe. it is finished with a blend of carnauba wax and natural oils making it vegan, sustainable, and food safe. When the time comes to refresh the finish, to keep it looking nice if you are using it regularly, it couldn�t be easier. I use Uulki Wood Wax, it is inexpensive for a pot that will last for ages and is really easy to apply. It can also be used on your other wooden kitchen utensils so it�s keeping a pot in your kitchen.
