About me:

I am a furniture designer maker who loves to experiment with new techniques, materials and technologies.

 

When I was twelve, I met a woodturner in Cambridge market and I was captivated by the craft. After a few more years of visiting him in the market, he offered me his first lathe so I could have a go for myself. While learning to turn I also developed an interest in other traditional hand skills such as joinery. I also began to explore my digital creativity with the use of 3D printers, programming, and learning Fusion 360 as well as other CAD software. At the time these were two very separate skills for me.

 

In 2022, I started my degree in Furniture Design and Making at Rycotewood, keen to further my skills. During my first year, I focused on hand tools and learning to use conventional machines such as spindle moulders and pin routers. As my design ethos evolved, I started to find I was unable to create the forms I could create in 3D modelling software using conventional machines. So, at the start of my second year, I started learning to program the CNC router. While developing skills in the use of the CNC, I was working on a project that required a creative and experimental use of Valchromat. This combination led me to create my award-winning Whisky Tantalus. I began combining my interests in traditional making, material experimentation, and digital craft to create interesting new pieces.
